How to choose a weaving loom

How to choose a weaving loom

Hi, welcome. This is the place you will learn all you need to know about our weaving looms. I hope it's helpful in making your loom choice, but I will warn you, once you get one, you will definitely want another (kind of like a tattoo). We currently have 5 loom options.  All our looms & tools are designed by me and individually handcrafted from natural maple by my dad Paul, here in Canada. Each side easily clicks in and out to keep your creation straight in the finishing process. Each notch has smooth edges and grooves for easy, secure warping. All looms have 3 epi (ends per inch). Now let's start with the smallest, the first loom we made.

NWOTB Beginner Weaving Kit

Fun fact: I loved the NKOTB. (What teen girl born in the early 80’s didn’t?)  As homage to the original boy band, I present our NWOTB beginner weaving kit.

Are you a New Weaver On The Block?  Have you been “hangin’ tough” trying to figure out what you need to start weaving?  Welcome! This kit’s got the “right stuff” and includes all the tools you need to get started. (Ok ok I’ll stop.. or will I?)

This is a complete toolkit to create your wall first hanging:

1 x 12” x 16” Loom  - (a.k.a. The big frame you make your weave on!)

1 x Shuttle - (This tool holds a bunch of yarn while you weave large sections.)

1 x Shed Stick - (This tool holds up a series of vertical threads to help weave faster.)

1 x Weaving/Pick Comb - (This tool evenly packs down your yarn.)

1 x Cotton Warp 1 Project - (This forms the backbone that holds your weave together!)

The Wee One: 12” Small Weaving Loom

Our base loom measures 12” x 16”.  But don’t let her petite nature fool you - this gal is mighty!  The beautiful intricate and shag designs you’ve been pinning can be scaled and woven on this expertly crafted loom. She’s a great option if you’re a newbie weaver or if you prefer creating smaller scale art.

The total loom size is 12” x 16”.

Corker /  : 18” Adjustable Weaving Loom

Having married an Australian, I’m privy to lots of colourful slang that has quickly become our new normal.  In that light, I’d like to introduce you to our medium sized loom - she’s a real corker! (corker [ kawr-ker ] noun: someone or something that is astonishing or excellent)

This is our smallest square loom with legs. Perfect for beginners or those looking for a smaller loom with legs for their collection. Why legs? Legs raise the frame to encourage your posture and save your neck. You can grab it on it’s own or as a kit. I’ve paired it with my favourite square comb and our 9” weaving needle. This beauty’s great to use with your favourite chunky yarn.

The total loom size is 18” x 18”.

You gawk at her as you wander the racks of Anthropologie.  The stunning colossal tapestry handcrafted by a local artist. You daydream about standing back and admiring your own work one day.  Today is the day. This is by far our most exciting launch. Dad and I have refined this concept for over a year and it’s finally ready!

This GIANT fully adjustable loom for all you weavers who are wanting to weave rugs, huge statement pieces and just anything your heart desires.

Similar to the other looms in the Roving family, dad designed this one with the same adjustable concept - only supersized. The Epic can be used at her full height of just over 6’, or her smallest, just over 4’ and anything in between. The legs can be set up so that your loom is on the floor, in between, or at their max height, taking your loom 19.5” off the ground. The width remains constant at 6’.
